As the term gets underway, it has been pleasing to see how quickly the school has settled and the positive way students have engaged with their learning from the very beginning.
Despite some initial challenges with internet access, classrooms are purposeful, routines are well established, and students have shown a strong commitment to making the most of the opportunities available to them.
Last Friday, we had the privilege of formally welcoming our new members through our mihi whakatau. This was a special occasion and a meaningful way to begin the year together, reflecting the values of connection, respect, and belonging that are central to who we are as a school. My sincere thanks go to our Kapa Haka rōpū, student leaders, and staff who supported this important event.
In our initial full school assembly, I spoke with students about three key themes that will guide our year ahead. First, the importance of ensuring Lincoln High School remains a safe, welcoming, and friendly environment for all. Secondly, I encouraged students to make the most of our wide range of extra-curricular opportunities, as involvement beyond the classroom plays a vital role in personal growth and connection. Finally, we emphasised the importance of developing strong learning habits, such as being organised, prepared for learning, and taking responsibility for one’s own progress.
As we approach Waitangi Day tomorrow, we take time to acknowledge the significance of this important day in Aotearoa New Zealand’s history and I wish all students, staff, and whānau a safe and enjoyable long weekend.
Ngā mihi nui,
Adrian Fastier Principal

Welcoming our New Students and Whānau
On Friday the 30th January, we had the pleasure of welcoming our new staff, students and whānau to Lincoln High School in our traditional mihi whakatau. We thank our Kapa Haka Rōpū and our Year 12 and 13 peer leaders for their haka pōwhiri and we again extend our warm welcome to all new members of our school community.
2025 NCEA Results and Success
Lincoln High School is proud to celebrate its provisional 2025 NCEA results, which show students achieving well above national averages across senior levels and literacy and numeracy.
At NCEA Level 2, 92% of students achieved the qualification, significantly higher than the national average of 73% and above schools of a similar Equity Index (84%). Level 3 achievement was also strong, with 87% of students achieving, compared with a national average of 70%. University Entrance achievement sat at 64%, exceeding the national average of 50%.
By the end of Year 11, students had performed strongly in the co-requisite standards, with 87% achieving Literacy and 90% achieving Numeracy, both above national averages.
These provisional results reflect the commitment, resilience, and hard work of Lincoln High School students, supported by dedicated teachers who work tirelessly to help every learner achieve their best possible qualification.
The school congratulates all students on their success and extends sincere thanks to teaching staff for their expertise, care, and unwavering focus on student achievement. Lincoln High School remains immensely proud of its learners and the collective effort that underpins these outcomes.
Final NCEA results including our endorsement rates and scholarships will be released when results are confirmed at the end of February.
Getting involved in 2026
As mentioned earlier, one of the key themes of 2026 is engagement in the wider life of the school. We believe this is such an important aspect of school life, both for the development of well-rounded young people, and for helping them build resilience and interpersonal skills and connections with other students. Through both our sports signups and upcoming club day, there is a wide variety of both highly competitive and social teams and clubs for your child to be a part of.
Summer Sport Signups
There are only three days left to register for summer sport, please make sure your child has signed up to any sports they wish to participate in before Sunday night.
As always there are a huge range of sports on offer, both competitive and social.
Sporting Success
Despite the holiday break, our students' sporting success has continued. Congratulations to all those students below, we are so proud of your achievements.

Last year we gained a lot of feedback around the way we report on your child's progress and attendance. in response to this feedback and changing Ministry of Education requirements, we have made the follow changes to how we will keep you informed on your child's progress during 2026.There are two different reports at Lincoln High School.
Progress Reports
These occur every three weeks (a change from the previous 5-weekly reports) and provide timely information about learning and behaviour across a student's subjects. Each subject includes a grade out of 4 for learning and a grade out of 4 for behaviour, giving a clear snapshot of progress over the past 3 weeks. The first of these will be sent to you by the 27th February.
Summative reports
These are released at the end of each term and are a summary of the academic results gained through assessment work. While students in Year 12-13 will receive their NCEA grades, students in years 9-11 will receive 'progress descriptors' which have been developed in-line with the new curriculum for use in all schools. Teachers will assign an overall progress descriptor for each element or strand of the learning area. The descriptors include emerging, developing, consolidating, proficient, exceeding, and they will make it clear how students are progressing in each particular area. For students completing longer project-based internal assessments, the reported progress descriptor reflects progress at the time of reporting and may change once final marking is completed.
More information about these reports will be available when the first set of each of these reports are sent home.

Careers Update
Kia ora,
We’re excited to introduce ourselves as the Career Department at Lincoln High School. Located in the Careers Hub beside the school hall. Our aim is to support students as they explore future pathways – whether they’re heading into tertiary study, apprenticeships, or straight into the workforce.
Meet the Team:
Mrs Leesa Lawgate – Careers Advisor: Supporting students with subject selection, career planning, CV’s, interview prep, university applications and more.
Mrs Carolyn Murphy – Gateway and Work Experience Co-ordinator: Connecting students with work placements to gain hand-on experience in areas they’re interested in.
Mrs Heather Elliott – Pathways Co-ordinator: Organising short courses, tasters and dual enrolment so students can try out different industries and gain useful skills.
How to connect with us:
If you’d like to know more about how we can support students or if you’re an employer interested in offering opportunities, we’d love to hear from you. Students and whānau can access our CareerWise website through the LHS Portal. On CareerWise students can book appointments with any member of our team, see updates about career events, news and jobs. Here is a link to our CareerWise website: https://lincoln.careerwise.school/
Caregivers can also email or phone us, or your young person can get in touch via TEAMs message or visit the Careers Hub at interval or lunch. All Year 12 and 13 students are asked to complete a careers survey which helps us to direct appropriate opportunities to them.
Upcoming Career Events for Term 1 for Year 12 and 13 students
There are some exciting careers events coming up both at school and in the wider community that we encourage students and whānau to attend. These are great opportunities to explore future pathways, meet industry professionals, and gather helpful information about study, training, and employment options.
Ara Taster Days – Hands-On Career Exploration
Ara Taster Days give students fantastic opportunities to experience different career pathways in a hands-on, practical environment. Held at Ara campuses, these events let students try out areas like hospitality, trades, health, creative industries and more. Spaces are limited, so if your rangatahi is interested, please encourage them to register on Ara’s website - https://www.ara.ac.nz/study/youth-pathways/experience-ara/
We encourage all students to get involved in the wide range of extracurricular opportunities on offer this year, including sports, arts, and clubs. Getting involved is a great way for students to build confidence, develop new skills, and connect with others.
Clubs Day will be held on Wednesday 11 February (Linc for Year 9’s only, Lunchtime for Years 9-13), giving students the chance to explore what LHS has to offer and sign up for clubs that interest them. We also welcome support from parents and whānau who may be interested in helping as coaches, managers, or adults in charge of teams and clubs. If you’re keen to be involved, we’d love to hear from you.
